If you want to use a sanitizing solution to make your carpet cleaner, it is a good idea to do a test before applying it all over your carpet. No matter how good a solution may seem, you never know if it could cause further discoloration. To prevent this problem, apply the solution to a small spot of your carpet. Leave it there for a few hours and then observe. If you notice severe discoloration, you should avoid using the product and look for another. If not, it should be okay to apply all over your carpet.

When trying to get a stain out of your carpet, rather than rubbing, try blotting. Rubbing the area to roughly could cause the stain to spread even further, causing more problems. Blotting it allows you to remove the stain without spreading it further. Also, to prevent spreading, begin blotting on the edges of the stain and them work your way to the middle.

Know that simply vacuuming your carpets is not enough to really keep them clean. Sure, it may remove dirt on the top of the carpet, but it is not effective in getting deep into the carpet to remove debris and hairs. In order to get these items out, go over each area of the carpet at least three to four times and if possible move the vacuum over it from different angles.

Are indentations from furniture a problem with your carpet. If so, know that this problem can easy be solved. Every couple of months, remove each item of furniture. Then, use a fine-toothed comb to fluff up the areas of indentation. Just be sure not to wait too long; the weight of furniture can leave permanent indentations when left in the same spot for too long.

If you are looking for a quick solution for getting rid of stains, you are in luck. An effective way to remove stains is by placing a couple of drops of hand/dishwashing soap in warm water. Apply it to the stained area and leave it there for about an hour. Then, all you need to do is use a dry, clean towel to blot it dry.

How to add essential oil to homemade cleaning products?I purchased a pricy “natural” cleaning product at a farmers market that was made primarily from baking soda and smelled wonderful. I’d like to try to make my own, but am not sure how to infuse the baking soda with fragrance using essential oils, as they did with the product I purchased. I’m also not sure how much oil I should use.

Under carpet cleaner, it reads “To make a carpet freshener, add 16-20 drops of essential oils to a cup of baking soda. Mix well and place in a covered container overnight so that the oil can be absorbed. Sprinkle over your carpet the next day and then vacuum the powder up. ”

I hope this helps:)

[display_name id=”1″]Here are some tips I pass around to my friends:

For an effective glass cleaner, use a mixture of half white vinegar and half water.

Baking soda and cornstarch are both good carpet deodorizers.

To clean up mildew and mold, use a mixture of lemon juice or white vinegar and salt.

A paste of baking soda, salt, and hot water makes a great oven cleaner.

Cleaning With Vinegar
White vinegar is an acid. It’s unique properties make it an effective grease cutter, and it will stop mold and mildew in it’s tracks. Vinegar is non-toxic and does not leave any residue or smell). We go through gallons of it each week washing hardwood, vinyl or linoleum floors. Be careful to use only plain white vinegar, and not any flavored or apple cider variety. Since it is an acid, do not use it on any stone or marble surface as it will actually etch the surface

Carpet Freshener
Use baking soda as a carpet freshener. Just sprinkle some baking soda on your dry carpet and let it sit about 15 minutes before vacuuming to freshen it nicely.

All Purpose Cleaner
•1/2 tsp. Baking soda
•a dab of liquid soap
•2 cups hot tap water
Combine these ingredients in to a spray bottle and mix thoroughly.

Window & Glass Cleaner
•1/2 teaspoon liquid detergent
•3 tablespoons vinegar
•2 cups water
Mix all ingredients in to a spray bottle. Use this product just as you would with a commercial glass cleaner

Oven Cleaner
1 cup or more baking soda
A squirt or two of liquid detergent
Sprinkle water generously over the bottom of the oven, then cover the grime with enough baking soda that the surface is totally white. Sprinkle some more water over the top. Let the mixture set overnight. You can easily wipe up the grease the next morning because the grime will have loosened. When you have cleaned up the worst of the mess, dab a bit of liquid detergent or soap on a sponge, and wash the remaining residue from the oven. If this recipe doesn’t work for you it is probably because you didn’t use enough baking soda and/or water.

Furniture Polish
1/2 teaspoon oil, such as olive (or jojoba, a liquid wax)
1/4 cup vinegar or fresh lemon juice
Mix the ingredients in a glass jar. Dab a soft rag into the solution and wipe onto wood surfaces. Cover the glass jar and store indefinitely.

Pour ½ cup baking soda down drain, add ½ cup white vinegar, and cover the drain. Wait 15 minutes and then pour 1 gallon of hot water down the drain to get rid of build up.

Toilet Cleaner
make a super toilet cleaner with ¼ cup baking soda and 1 cup vinegar, pour it into toilet and let sit for 5 min. Before scrubbing with a brush

Homemade dishwashing detergent- for your dishes in the dishwasher!
Add one tablespoon of Super Washing Soda to the dishwasher dispenser then add one tablespoon of 20 Mule Team Borax to the dishwasher dispenser. To remove those pesky water spots, pour distilled white vinegar into the dispenser where the clear rinse gel usually goes. Once you’ve run your dishwasher, be sure to hold your glasses up to the light and inspect them thoroughly. You’ll find that the homemade detergent cleans as well if not better than the store bought detergent. Enjoy the savings!

[display_name id=”1″]There is a lot of advice here:
Http://www.ask.com/web?q=carpet+stain+re…I would advise to consider replacing the carpet. It is sometimes difficult to dry a carpet once it has become wet. Damp carpet can grow mold that will make you sick. You are not likely to figure out why except that I told you so.Besides, if the carpet is more than two years old it’s certain that the dirt in the carpet weighs more than the carpet.
